A day trip from Marrakech starts around 17 to 30 euros shared and 20 to 75 euros privately. A multi-day desert tour runs from 80 euros shared to 270 euros for a four day private circuit with a luxury camp. The spread is wide because four things move the price, and none of them is hidden.
What makes two quotes genuinely comparable is not the headline figure. It is whether lunch and entrance fees are inside it, and how many people share the vehicle.

Prices are per person and move with the season and the group size. The full tour list carries the current figure for each one.
The four things that move the price
Distance. The largest single factor, and the least negotiable. Merzouga is roughly 560 kilometres from Marrakech and Zagora around 360, which is why a Merzouga circuit needs three days and costs more than a Zagora one. Fuel and driving hours are most of what you pay for on a desert trip.
Shared or private. The biggest lever you control. A shared vehicle splits the driver and the fuel across a dozen people. Private does not. On a day trip the gap is modest, on a three day circuit it roughly doubles the figure.
Duration. Each extra day adds a night, a dinner and more road. What it does not add is a proportional amount: a four day desert tour is not a third more expensive than the three day version, because the long drive south is already paid for.
Season. Spring and autumn are the busy months and prices follow demand, as they do anywhere. July and August are cheaper in the south for a reason: it passes 45C.
What is included, and what is not
This is where two identical-looking prices stop being identical. On most day trips from Marrakech, ours included:

Lunch is left out deliberately rather than to lower the headline price. It leaves you free to eat where you want instead of where a commission is paid, which is a real practice on the tourist routes.
Before comparing any two tours, anywhere, ask the same two questions: is lunch in, and are entrance fees in. A 30 euro trip with both included can cost less than a 25 euro one without.
What you pay on top, on the day
Budget 150 to 300 dirhams a day per person for lunch, entrance fees, tea stops and tips on a day trip. More on a desert circuit, where camel rides and extras add up.

How payment works
The usual pattern with a local operator is a deposit to confirm the date and the balance settled on the day. The deposit takes the vehicle and the departure off the calendar, which is why it is rarely refundable at short notice.
Ask before you arrive whether the balance is cash or card. On a desert circuit it is often cash, and the nearest machine may be two hundred kilometres behind you.
Is it worth paying more?
Sometimes, and not always. On a single day, the shared version gets you to the same place at the same time for roughly half. On a three or four day circuit, the private version buys back hours you actually feel.
From four people upward, run the arithmetic before assuming private is out of reach: a vehicle divided by four often costs little more per head than four shared seats.
