Why Book the Private Trip

  • A vehicle for your party only. Air conditioned, door to door from your riad or hotel. No minibus, no waiting for eleven other people.
  • You set the clock. Leave early to arrive ahead of the coaches, or later if you would rather sleep in. Head back when you are ready.
  • A guide who knows the ground. Not a driver with a printed script, but someone who knows the places you cross and can answer what you actually want to ask.
  • No commission stops. The road is lined with cooperatives that pay drivers to bring visitors in. We stop where you want to stop.
  • One price, agreed before you leave. The table on this page is the full cost per person. Nothing is added on the day.

Ourika Valley in a Single Day, at Your Own Pace

This private Ourika Valley day trip from Marrakech runs on your schedule: your own vehicle, your own guide, and a departure time you choose. No fixed timetable, and no other passengers.

The Ourika Valley follows the Ourika river south from Marrakech into the foothills of the High Atlas, ending at the village of Setti Fatma. It is the closest mountain valley to the city: the valley opens about 30 kilometres out of Marrakech, and Setti Fatma sits at 60 to 65 kilometres. That is what makes it work as a single day out rather than an overnight trip.

Before you go, our guide answers how far the Ourika Valley is from Marrakech and how long the drive takes. Looking for other ideas around the city? See all our private day trips from Marrakech.

What You Will See and Do

  • The Setti Fatma waterfalls. Seven cascades sit in a narrow gorge above the village, each one higher and harder to reach than the last. Most visitors walk to the first two. Your guide sets the pace, and turning back early costs you nothing, because there is no group waiting.
  • The valley road. The drive climbs beside the river through terraced fields and walnut groves, with the High Atlas ridge ahead. Your driver stops wherever the view is worth it, not at a fixed list of viewpoints.
  • Berber villages. Red earth houses built into the slope, above fields still worked by hand. The valley is inhabited and farmed, not staged for visitors: its communities speak Shilha and still live off the terraces you drive past.
  • The river itself. In summer the restaurants set their tables on platforms in the water, which is the reason many Marrakchis come up here on a hot day.
  • Lunch by the river. The meal is not included in the tour price. Expect €6 to €12 per person, paid on site, so you choose freely where and what you eat.
  • A guide who knows the valley. Included for the whole day, which on this trip matters most on the waterfall path, where the route is not signposted and the rock stays wet.

Your Private Ourika Valley Day Trip from Marrakech, Step by Step

Day 1Marrakech → Ourika Valley → Marrakech

  • Departure from your accommodation. Your driver collects you in Marrakech at the time you have chosen, and the road climbs south towards the High Atlas foothills. Roughly an hour, with stops wherever the valley opens up.
  • Along the Ourika river. Terraced fields, walnut groves and Berber villages built into the slope. Your guide explains how the valley is farmed and how the water is shared between households.

  • The Setti Fatma waterfalls. From the village, a rocky path follows the gorge up to the cascades. Your guide leads and sets the pace, and you decide how far you go. Sturdy shoes matter more here than fitness, because the rock stays wet.
  • Lunch by the river. Several restaurants set their tables beside the water. The meal is not included and is paid on site, around €6 to €12 per person, so you choose where and what you eat.

Back to Marrakech. You leave the valley when you have had enough of it, not when a timetable says so. Count about an hour on the road, and ask your driver to stop on the way down if the light is worth it.

FAQ

What is the best time to visit Ourika Valley?

Spring, from March to May, is the best window: the snowmelt feeds the waterfalls and the valley is at its greenest. Autumn, from September to November, is mild and quieter. Summer days are hot in Marrakech but noticeably cooler by the river, which is why the valley fills up with local families. Winter is cold, and snow can fall higher up.

Are there any hiking opportunities during the tour?

Yes. From the village of Setti Fatma a rocky path follows the gorge up to the waterfalls, roughly 45 minutes to an hour each way to the first cascades. Your guide leads and sets the pace. Wear shoes with grip: the rock stays wet all year.

Will we have free time to explore on our own?

Yes. The trip is private, so the timing is yours. You can sit by the river, walk through the village, or stay longer at the falls. Nothing on this tour runs to a fixed schedule.

Is lunch included?

No. Lunch and drinks are not included and are paid on site, usually between 6 and 12 euros per person. Several restaurants set their tables beside the river. Your guide will point out the ones locals use, and you order what you want.

Should I book the private tour or the shared one?

Take the private trip if you want your own vehicle, your own departure time, and the freedom to stop where you like. If you would rather share the vehicle and travel on a fixed schedule for less, we also run a shared Ourika Valley day trip.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

The drive and the riverside restaurants are manageable, but the path to the waterfalls is rocky, uneven and not adapted. Tell us your needs when you book and we will say honestly what is feasible and what is not.

Can I book the tour for a large group?

Yes, up to 17 travellers, and the price per person falls as the group grows. Tell us the size of your party when you book so the right vehicle is reserved.

How do I book the tour?

Book directly on this page: choose your date and the number of travellers, and the total updates as you go. We confirm your reservation and agree the pick-up time with you afterwards.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my booking?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure. Within 24 hours a fee may apply. Rescheduling is usually possible, just tell us as early as you can.
