This private Ouzoud Waterfalls day trip from Marrakech runs on your schedule: your own vehicle, your own guide, and a departure time you choose. No fixed timetable, and no other passengers.
Ouzoud Falls drop 110 metres in three tiers into a gorge of the Middle Atlas, in the Azilal province. They are the tallest waterfalls in North Africa, 150 kilometres north-east of Marrakech.
Before you go, our guide explains what the name Ouzoud means and where the water comes from. Looking for other ideas around the city? See all our private day trips from Marrakech.

Pick-up in Marrakech. Your driver and guide collect you at your riad or hotel, at the time you chose. The road runs north-east through the plains, then climbs into the Middle Atlas : olive groves, small Berber towns, roughly three hours with a comfort stop along the way.
Arrival above the falls. The first view is from the clifftop, where the three tiers of Ouzoud Falls appear all at once. Your guide gives you the lay of the gorge before you start down.

Down to the pools. A stepped path descends through the olive trees to the base of the cascades. It takes as long as you want it to take. On the way you will almost certainly meet the wild Barbary macaques that live here.
The foot of the falls. Close enough to feel the spray. A short boat ride is available on the spot if you want the view from the water (€3 per person, optional).
Lunch above the water. Several restaurants sit on the terraces facing the cascades. The meal is not included in the tour price, so you order what you like and pay directly : your guide will point out the ones worth the detour.
Time to yourselves. Swim in the natural pools when the season allows, walk up to the village of Tanaghmelt and its water-driven olive mills, or simply stay put. Because the vehicle is yours, this part of the day is as long as you decide.

Return to Marrakech. The same road back, usually with the light low over the plains. You are dropped at your accommodation, or anywhere else in the city you ask for.

The drive from Marrakech to Ouzoud Falls takes 2.5 to 3 hours each way, for about 150 kilometres. Traffic leaving Marrakech is the main variable.
Yes. You can swim in the natural pools at the base of the falls, and it is one of the best moments of the day in summer. The rocks are slippery, so take your time going in, and check with your guide when the water is high.
Yes. Because the trip is private, you decide. Most travellers spend 2 to 3 hours at the falls: the walk down, the pools, photographs, and the climb back. If you want longer, your driver waits.
Yes, and it is one of the reasons families choose the private version. The minimum age is 4. The walk to the base involves steps and uneven ground, so with very young children or reduced mobility, you can stay at the clifftop viewpoints, which are just as impressive.
Yes. That is the point of a private trip: you choose the departure time, how long you stay at the falls, and whether you stop on the way. Tell us what you have in mind when you book, or on the day, and your driver adapts.
This tour is strictly private. The vehicle is yours alone, with no other passengers and no group schedule to follow.
If you would rather share the vehicle and travel on a fixed schedule, we also run a shared Ouzoud Falls day trip.
Included: hotel or riad pick-up and drop-off in Marrakech, private air-conditioned vehicle, and a local guide at Ouzoud Falls.
Not included: lunch and drinks, paid on site so you choose your restaurant, the optional boat ride at €3 per person, and tips.
Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the departure date are refunded in full. Within 24 hours, a fee may apply. Rescheduling is free whenever the date is available.
The El Abid river carries about 87 per cent of its annual flow in winter and spring, so the falls are at their widest and loudest from March to May. February and June are still strong, and late summer is the thinnest flow of the year. The falls never dry up, but the volume changes a great deal. Our guide to Ouzoud Falls explains where the water comes from.
